5 Days Rwanda Primates Safari

The 5 day Rwanda primate tour includes mountain gorilla trekking and chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe National Park and this begins and ends in Kigali. Nyungwe Forest National Park features several primate species in Rwanda while the rare mountain gorillas in Rwanda are inhabited in Volcanoes National Park.

Full Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

After you have arrived at the Kigali International Airport, our experienced driver guide will pick you up and head southwards to Nyungwe Forest National Park with en-route visit to the national museum in Butare, the Murambi genocide memorial site, the Nyanza kings palace. On arrival, you will have dinner and overnight stay at:

  • Luxury Accommodation: Nyungwe Forest Lodge.
  • Midrange Accommodation: Nyungwe Top view Hill Hotel
  • Budget Accommodation: Gisakura Guest House

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk

Breakfast in the morning and after you head to Nyungwe Forest for primate viewing as well as other wildlife species. The guides will be available to explain to you lifestyle, feeding, reproduction rate and many more details that you want to learn about these magnificent species. While on your safari to Nyungwe Forest National Park, expect to view the chimpanzees, the rare L’Hoests monkeys, Hamlyn’s monkeys, Red tailed monkeys, Angola colobus, vervets and many more. Retreat for lunch at the lodge and in the afternoon set off for canopy walk after which you will return to the lodge for relaxation, later have dinner and overnight stay at the Lodge as above.

Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, you will set off to Volcanoes National Park in Ruhengeri. You will have dinner and overnight stay at:

  • Midrange Accommodation: La Palme hotel-Deluxe,
  • Budget Accommodation: Muhabura hotel.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Breakfast in the morning and after you head to the park headquarters for the early morning briefing from the park official. Volcanoes National Park offers refuge to over 62% of the rare mountain gorillas that live within the Virunga Massifs. There are 10 habituated gorilla families set for tourism but only one will be assigned to you to track in one day and only one hour is allowed for you to have magical encounter with these rare creatures while in their natural habitat. After, you will return to your lodge of choice for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Return to Kigali

Following breakfast in the morning, you will set off to Kigali but you will first have a brief city tour at the Gisozi genocide memorial site to explore more about the Rwanda genocide that claimed thousands of innocent lives in 1994. After, you will set off to Kigali International Airport for your scheduled flight and this marks the end of the five days safari in Rwanda.
