Low Season Gorilla Permits in Uganda

A Gorilla trekking permit is a legal document issued by the Uganda Wildlife Authority to travellers aged 15 or older, allowing them to visit the habituated mountain gorillas in their natural environment and spend 1 hour with them.

Gorilla trekking is a breathtaking experience that shouldn’t be missed during your travels in Uganda. It takes place in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, which harbours the highest number of mountain gorillas across four sectors, and in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, both located in the south-western region.

Uganda Wildlife Authority introduced discounted low-season gorilla trekking permits, applicable in April, May and November, and it’s intended to encourage travel during the low season in Uganda

Cost of low-season gorilla permits in Uganda

Low-season gorilla trekking permits in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park cost 600 USD per person for foreign non-residents and 500 USD per person for foreign residents.

Please note that during the peak season in the months of June, July, August, September, December, January and February, the gorilla trekking permit price will remain the same at 800 USD per person for foreign nonresidents, 700 USD per person for foreign residents, 500 USD per person for African citizens and 300,000 UGX per person for East African citizens.

How to book low-season gorilla permits in Uganda

Gorilla trekking permits in Uganda can only be purchased through a trusted tour operator like MUAFRIKA ADVENTURES. To book your low season gorilla trekking permits in Uganda, you will reach out to us with the date, month and year when you wish to visit the mountain gorillas.

We will later contact the Uganda Wildlife Authority to check for permit availability on your preferred dates, and once the permit is available, you will be asked to make payments for the safari/permit and we will be able to purchase it on your behalf.

Low-season gorilla trekking permits should, however, be booked 2 to 3 months before your visit, as gorilla permits are competitive and usually get fully booked quickly; therefore, to avoid last-minute disappointments, you are encouraged to book in advance.

What is included in the low-season gorilla permit in Uganda

Low season gorilla trekking permits in Uganda include park entrance fees to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, a one-hour encounter with the habituated mountain gorillas, and the services of an experienced park guide and park rangers to keep you safe during the trekking adventure.

Low-season gorilla trekking permits in Uganda will, however, not be rescheduled to a different date once purchased; hence, tourists should confirm the exact gorilla trekking and travel dates before securing the discounted permits.

What to pack for a low-season gorilla trekking safari in Uganda

Low season, also known as the rainy season, is usually characterized by heavy rainfall in the tropical rainforests of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, which makes the trekking grounds muddy and slippery; however, it doesn’t rain the whole day, therefore you will be able to go for your gorilla trekking adventure regardless of the rain.

There are a number of essential items that you can pack for your gorilla trekking safari in Uganda including Long sleeved shirt and trousers, long socks, a rain jacket, garden gloves, hiking shoes/boots, gaiters, a warm sweater, insect repellent, a hat and sunscreen, a packed lunch and drinking water, a camera and extra batteries, a backpack, a pair of binoculars, and a walking stick, among others.
