5 Days Congo Gorilla Trekking

The 5 days mountain gorilla trekking together with Mount Nyiragongo hiking adventures begins from Kigali driving towards Gisenyi crossing into the DR Congo through Goma border of Rwanda-Congo. Mount Nyiragongo is exceptionally one of the world’s most powerful natural wonders with the most active strato volcano just in Eastern DRC. It comes with the most bubbling Lava as you will view it at a distance. The Virunga National Park offers refuge to over 200 rare mountain gorillas and it has eight habituated gorilla groups but only one is assigned to a group of eight people to track each day.


Day 1: Transfer to Lake Kivu
Day 2: Transfer to DRC for mount Nyiragongo hiking
Day 3: Descend from the Volcano
Day 4: Gorilla trekking in Virunga National Park
Day 5: Return to Kigali

Day 1: Transfer to Lake Kivu
After breakfast early in the morning, you will be picked by our experienced driver guide from the hotel of your choice ready to connect to Gisenyi-Lake Kivu. You will have a boat cruise to the Nyamirundi coffee island where you will explore more on how the coffee is grown, harvested, processed and consumed. After, you drive to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay at Paradise Malahide or Kivu Serena hotel.

Day 2: Transfer to DR Congo for Mount Nyiragongo hike
Following breakfast in the morning, you will be transferred to Kibati village for your breathtaking adventure at Nyiragongo Mountain. The hike may take about four to six hours but this depends on your physical fitness. While hiking no one is supposed to be left behind. After you will have dinner and overnight at the Nyiragongo volcano summit shelters.

Day 3: Descend from the Volcano
After your early morning breakfast, you will start descending from the volcano as you catch a glimpse of the surrounding mountain. After, you will check in Mikeno Lodge-Luxury or Bukima Tented Lodge for budget.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking in Virunga National Park
After breakfast in the morning, you will set off for an early morning briefing from the park official on rules and regulations. There are eight habituated gorilla groups but only one will be assigned to you to track in a group of eight visitors. After, you will return to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight over stay in Mikeno Lodge an up-market or Bukima Lodge for midrange.

Day 5: Return to Kigali
Early in the morning, you will have breakfast and after you will set off to Kigali International Airport for your scheduled flight back home.
